Kantha is a form of embroidery which used to be practised by the rural women of West Bengal. The entire cloth is covered with running stitches, employing beautiful motifs of flowers, animals birds and geometrical shapes, as well as themes from everyday activities. The colourful patterns and designs that are embroidered resulted in the name "Nakshi Kantha", which was derived from the Bengali word "naksha", which refers to artistic patterns. The stitching on the cloth gives it a slight wrinkled, wavy effect.
This Saree is partly dyed in bright Pink & the rest of the Saree retains the original Tussar colour. The Pink Body has multi coloured flower motifs stitched all over. The rest of the Saree has a very intricate & heavy multi coloured embroidery consisting mainly of floral motifs along with other geometric patterns etc. The Border of this Saree progressively increases in width, starting from one end & finishing in the other. The Pallu is also embroidered the same way.
The Blouse Piece is plain with embroidery in the Sleeves.
