Kantha is a form of embroidery which used to be practised by the rural women of West Bengal. The entire cloth is covered with running stitches, employing beautiful motifs of flowers, animals birds and geometrical shapes, as well as themes from everyday activities. The colourful patterns and designs that are embroidered resulted in the name "Nakshi Kantha", which was derived from the Bengali word "naksha", which refers to artistic patterns. The stitching on the cloth gives it a slightly wrinkled, wavy effect. Contemporary Kantha is applied to a wider range of garments such as sarees, dupattas, shirt lengths for men and women, furnishing fabrics, mostly using cotton and silk.
This very rich Navy Blue Silk has been further enriched with heavy Kantha embroidery all over the Pallu & along the Border. Both the Pallu & Border has very detailed Kantha embroidery which includes floral & leaf motifs. The embroidery is handmade & very intricate & detailed due to which it takes 3-4 months to finish one Saree.
The Blouse Piece is plain with embroidery in the Sleeves.
