Kantha is a form of embroidery which used to be practised by the rural women of West Bengal. The entire cloth is covered with running stitches, employing beautiful motifs of flowers, animals birds and geometrical shapes, as well as themes from everyday activities. The stitching on the cloth gives it a slight wrinkled, wavy effect. Contemporary Kantha is applied to a wider range of garments such as sarees, dupattas, shirt lengths for men and women, furnishing fabrics, mostly using cotton and silk.
This Bright Red Bangalore Silk is Kantha embroidered with multi coloured Floral motifs in the Pallu as well as the Border. In this, the Kantha stitches are done in the reverse side of the saree in such a way that the motifs automatically get highlighted in the front. The Border of this Saree progressively increases in width, starting from one end & finishing in the other. The Pallu is also embroidered the same way.
The Blouse Piece is plain with embroidery in the Sleeves.
