Kantha is a form of embroidery which used to be practised by the rural women of West Bengal. The entire cloth is covered with running stitches, employing beautiful motifs of flowers, animals birds and geometrical shapes, as well as themes from everyday activities. The colourful patterns and designs that are embroidered resulted in the name "Nakshi Kantha", which was derived from the Bengali word "naksha", which refers to artistic patterns. The stitching on the cloth gives it a slight wrinkled, wavy effect. Contemporary Kantha is applied to a wider range of garments such as sarees, dupattas, shirt lengths for men and women, furnishing fabrics, mostly using cotton and silk.
This very elegant Maroon Bangalore Silk has very intricate Kantha embroidery all over the body & even more in the Pallu. The whole embroidery is in a very soothing off-white coloured thread but gives a gorgeous look to the saree. The embroidery in the Body is in the form of geometrical shapes while the Pallu has traditional Kantha stitch.
The Blouse Piece is plain with embroidery in the Sleeves.
